Internship T&i Polyolefins Reactive Modification
Beschrijving: About Technology & Innovation The Chemistry, Catalysis & Operations (CC&O) department is one of three departments (besides our sister departments Material and Technology Development) located at SABIC’s European Technology Center (STC) in Geleen (NL). We help our European production assets in selecting the right feedstocks and in making the desired products with the right quality and at lowest costs, both for the crackers and polyolefins. CC&O mainly supports production assets in Geleen, Gelsenkirchen (D) and Teesside (UK) in catalyst selection and development and in process improvements through increased understanding of the process chemistry. Additionally, we help in the selection of inhibitors and additives, and in the characterisation of feedstocks for both, olefins and polyolefins production facilities. The Challenge Reactive modification of polyolefins (i. e. polypropylene) in extruders is widely applied. It is a complex interplay between reaction and mixing. If the kinetics of both are not fitting well to each other the targeted product quality will not be reached. We aim for a better understanding of the competing phenomena by means of small-scale experiments. In your study, you will design and build a lab scale set-up for the reactive modification of polyolefins (i. e. polypropylene). Furthermore, you will develop the experimental protocols for modification experiments, and start first experiments. The later course of your assignment will depend on the outcome of these first experiments. If you are interested in a graduation project we can easily expand this assignment by a study on the fundamentals of reaction mechanisms (if you’re a chemist) or reaction and mixing kinetics (for chemical engineers). We can offer this assignment to you as soon as you want, and would appreciate it if you decided to join SABIC as internship student for at least four months, preferably six months. Beschrijving: Department The European Environment, Health, Safety & Security (EHSS) Team is one of four Regional EHSS Teams within SABIC’s Global EHSS Function. The European team has a range of responsibilities on behalf of SABIC and its European Sites, Business Units and Functions. In the European team there are three departments: Environment; Health & Safety and Process Safety and Security. The aim of the department Process Safety and Security is to provide leadership and expertise to ensure compliance with legal regulations, applicable international standards, SABIC requirements and the principles of Responsible Care and to stimulate continuous improvement of performance by developing and implementing effective policies and programs. Within this department we have a vacancy. The Challenge Provide expertise to support the development of Process Safety Management (PSM) and Security policies, standards and best practices for implementation in the European region. Support the implementation of actions and best practices for improvement. Assist with development, evaluation, monitoring and reporting of annual and long term PSM and Security performance metrics for the region. Coordinate the implementation of SABIC security standards within the region, and evaluate the actions to control the security risks. Actively participate in global subject expert networks to support the development and delivery of enhanced global standards for SABIC. Support PSM and Security auditing of regional and manufacturing sites with respect to PSM and Security implementation; measure performance and verify compliance with global SABIC policies and standards and applicable regulatory requirements, including Responsible Care. Provide support to regional sites where needed for permitting activities, incident investigation and operating reviews of critical security infrastructure/control systems to assess appropriate implementation of applicable SABIC security standards relative to the nature of the operations and the corresponding risk profile. Your Profile Technical degree (preferably master) in Chemical/Industrial Engineering and experience in relevant professional affiliations and certifications. Experience preferably several years within e.g. Site Improvements, Site EHSS or Maintenance. Good knowledge of SABIC Manufacturing processes and management systems. Experience, insight and a pragmatic approach in the management of diverse risks (e.g. process safety, security, business). Readiness for further qualification training in risk management and security issues. Ability to effectively monitor regulatory developments and industry trends. Strong quantitative & analytical skills. You have a strong drive to achieve objectives and with excellent influencing skills you are able to build commitment on several levels in the organization. You combine a strong perseverance with patience; build trust and show stress resistance; combine customer orientation with an independent view. Strong written & oral communication skills in the English language. Further Information Members of the team are based in Sittard and Bergen Op Zoom. The successful applicant can expect to spend time in both locations. Travel within Europe can be expected several times per year. Occasional visits to KSA, Americas and Asia-Pacific may be required to support audits and global programmes.
